Born in 2019 from the desire to promote a dialogue between contemporary art and the territory of the Duchy of Parma and Piacenza, the DucatoPrize focuses its attention on national and international artists capable of arousing, through their research, a critical reflection on the aspects more significant and contingent than the present.
The new and renewed 2023 edition sees for the first time the guidance of an artistic director, the curator Giacomo Pigliapoco, responsible for both the communication and the strategic management of the Prize, in particular the planning and strengthening of its activities, the curation of the exhibition of finalists and the creation of the paper publication.
The DucatoPrize is divided into two categories: Contemporary and Academy. The Award concludes with an exhibition that presents the 10 finalist works, 5 from the Contemporary section and 5 from the Academy category. The initiative is aimed at rewarding both artists who have already undertaken a path within the world of contemporary art, and younger artists, still enrolled in training institutes, in order to stimulate their growth.
The exhibition takes place in Piacenza in the Volumnia headquarters, the former Church of Sant’Agostino, an imposing deconsecrated complex from the 16th century. located along the Stradone Farnese.
Since 2018, Enrica De Micheli, a gallery owner with experience in antiques and modern art, has given new life to the Church, converting it into an exhibition space dedicated to historical Italian design and combining it with an intense cultural proposal of exhibitions and events.
Contemporary
Aimed at all artists, national and international, without age limits. Prize: €10,000
Academy
Aimed at students enrolled at national and international, public and private art academies and institutes. Prize: €1,000
DucatoPrize reserves the right to award further special mentions, acquisitions and production prizes.
